ABOUT.

The Shed was designed as a digital learning platform through lockdown; It has since grown into a kind of hive mind of practice approaches and resources, which has proved a very flexible model for jazz learning for all ages.

I had conceived of this model as providing resources for young learners wanting to further an initial jazz interest before applying to music college courses; The Shed, however, soon became an inspiring model for both these younger learners as well as adult learners and even professional players.

In 2021 we ran 10 monthly Shed sessions: some hosted by me on some of my approaches, and others, by friends and guests from the UK/ European jazz scene that I invited to lecture on their specialisms. Guests also provided practice resources for the session and they were a hit. We had classes by: Steve Fishwick, Michael Chillingworth, Dave Smith, Reuben Fowler, Miriam Ast, Sorana Santos. This is a model that I will be keen to revisit at a later stage and potentially invite friends to create resources that I could make available on here also.

The Shed also featured as a successful outreach project as part of the recent Alex Merritt/ Steve Fishwick 'Mind-Ear-Ladder' Tour and we started some work here that we intend to build on in future; making these resources available to those who might not have such easy access to these otherwise.'
